ESAIM: Probability and Statistics takes action to address increasing manuscript submissions

19 October 2026. The Editorial Board of ESAIM: Probability and Statistics (ESAIM: PS) has announced a temporary suspension of new manuscript submissions from 19 October to 8 November 2026, submissions will reopen on 9 November.

The journal is joining a coordinated initiative involving five other international probability and statistics journals: Electronic Journal of Probability (EJP), Electronic Communications in Probability (ECP), Stochastic Processes and their Applications (SPA), Bernoulli and Annales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré, Probabilités et Statistiques (AIHP).

The initiative comes in response to a substantial increase in manuscript submissions across the discipline, driven largely by the rapid development of artificial intelligence. This is putting considerable pressure on editorial boards and reviewers, making it increasingly difficult to manage workloads while ensuring thorough and fair peer review.

Maintaining trust in science depends on the quality and integrity of published research. Editors, reviewers, authors and publishers all have a part to play in upholding these standards. With editorial teams facing increasing workloads, it is important to address these pressures without compromising the quality and fairness of peer review.

For ESAIM: PS, the temporary suspension will allow the Editorial Board to review its editorial policies and guidelines, including its aims and scope and guidance on the use of AI by authors and reviewers. The Board will also consider practical measures to manage the increasing volume of submissions without compromising editorial standards.

The suspension applies only to new submissions. Authors will still be able to submit revisions, and all ongoing editorial and peer review processes will continue as normal.
New manuscript submissions will be accepted again from 9 November 2026.
